Questions people often ask

Short, honest answers about joining, verifying, matching and keeping your information private.

Getting started

Who can join Bandhon?
Anyone aged 18 or over can create an account. To publish a profile and appear to other members, you need to meet Bangladesh’s legal marriage age: 18 for women and 21 for men. Bandhon is for Bangladeshis at home and abroad who are looking for a marriage partner.
How do I sign up?
Use your email address or a Bangladeshi mobile number and choose a password. We send a code to confirm it is yours. Then you build your profile in six short steps, including what you are looking for in a partner. You can stop and continue later.
Can my parents or a relative create a profile for me?
A family member can help set up and manage your profile, and many families search together. But the account belongs to you, the person it describes, and you must agree to it. Changing the sign-in email, downloading your data or deleting the account asks for the password again.
Is Bandhon available in Bangla?
Yes. You can switch between Bangla and English at any time from the language option at the top of the page.

Identity verification

Do I have to verify my identity?
You can browse profiles without verifying. To send interests or messages you need to complete identity verification. This means everyone you talk to has been through the same check.
What does verification involve?
You upload the photo side of your NID, then record a short selfie video and blink the number of times we ask. A face-matching model on Bandhon’s own servers compares the two. Clear results are approved automatically; borderline ones are reviewed by trained staff.
Do you store my NID number?
We read it from your card to check it, but we don’t keep it. The NID photo, the details read from it and the video are deleted as soon as you are approved, or after a limited period, 30 days by default, if not. We keep only a one-way fingerprint of the number so the same NID can’t verify two accounts.
What is the difference between “ID verified” and “Contact verified”?
“ID verified” means the person’s NID portrait matched a live selfie video. “Contact verified” means they confirmed their email address or phone number. Neither badge says anything else about the person.

Matching

How does Bandhon decide who to suggest?
First, firm preferences such as age range, marital status and height are checked both ways, so you only see people whose preferences include you too. Then Bandhon estimates shared ground from what you have both entered, like values, interests, location, lifestyle, education, profession and languages. See the full explanation.
Why is there no compatibility score on some profiles?
A score is only shown when both profiles have enough information for it to mean something. Filling in more of your own profile helps.
Is religion used as a filter?
Only if you mark it as required in your partner preferences. Otherwise it is one part of the compatibility estimate.
Does the score predict whether a marriage will work?
No. It is a rough guide to common ground based on what people wrote down. It never uses guessed traits or income, and it cannot predict anything about a marriage.

Interests and messages

What happens when I send an interest?
Only the person you sent it to can see it. If they send interest back, you become a match and can message each other. Messaging is only possible between mutual matches.
Will I be told if someone declines?
You will not receive a rejection notification. We think it is kinder that way.
Is there a limit on interests?
Yes, there is a daily limit, which depends on your plan. It encourages people to send interest thoughtfully.

Privacy and safety

Who can see my photos?
You choose: all eligible members; only people you have sent interest to, plus your matches; or your matches only.
Will other members see my phone number or email?
Never. Contact details are not shown on Bandhon. You decide if and when to share them in a conversation.
Can I take a break without deleting my account?
Yes. Pause discovery from your settings and you stop appearing to new people. Your matches and conversations stay as they are.
What happens when I report someone?
Your report goes to a human moderator. If you report a message, the moderator sees that message only, not your whole conversation. You can also block the person, which ends any match between you. Read more about trust and safety.

Plans and your account

Does Bandhon cost anything?
No. Bandhon is free. Paid plans are coming soon and will be priced in taka; no payments are taken today. Safety and privacy features will never be behind a paywall.
Can I download my data?
Yes. From settings, request a download and you will receive a ZIP file with your account and profile details, your activity and your photos.
How do I delete my account?
Go to settings and choose to delete your account. Your profile is hidden straight away. If you sign in within 7 days, the deletion is cancelled. After that your account is anonymised, and messages you sent are replaced with a note that they were removed, unless they are part of an open safety report.
